A few years ago, I was juggling a lot. Not only was I wrapping my head around being a first-time mom to my son Dominick, I was simultaneously working on growing my new leadership training business, and working part-time in corporate America in New York City.
Even though I was engaged in exciting projects, I had hit a wall. I loved the leadership training work I was doing with women because it enabled me to pursue equality through leadership development, but I didn’t see how it could truly bring the financial rewards I was looking for. I wanted to make a change because it didn’t bring me pleasure, but I was scared to step away from what was familiar.
I was working myself into the ground during my 3 days of work each week. I had hit the ceiling, but still wanted to break through to touch more people with my message. But how? Just when I was about to throw in the towel, divine intervention laid me off from my part-time job!
I thought I had gotten my answer… the opportunity to focus full-time on my entrepreneurial endeavor as a leadership trainer. After pursuing it for 4 months and spending most of my time on business development- not leadership training- I realized it wasn’t for me. What?? I was devastated! Was the Universe telling me my life’s mission was not leadership training for women??? After that, I needed a breather and still had to pay the bills, so I went back to work full-time. I took a break from my leadership training for about a year.

Q: This sounds so powerful, but I think I want to get the foundations of my career set and clear time in my schedule before I get started. Is this the best route to take?
It’s been my experience from coaching hundreds of gutsy, mission-driven women that when left to their own devices to implement on their own, they inevitably fall flat. Why? Because busy, like-minded women and business leaders are people who are strong “starters,” eager to begin new things, but not strong “finishers.”
On your own you will likely implement some of the elements crucial to reaching the top ranks of institutions to change the world. However, with the support of a strong coach giving you step-by-step guidance, answering all of your questions, getting you unstuck when you get stuck, keeping you accountable, and giving you the unconditional support of a structured environment of peers who care about you, your implementation and impact increases dramatically.
Without it, you tend to default to your old way of doing things and create slow results. This is why I am ALWAYS being coached and mentored, too (and have been ever since I started working as a Women’s Leadership Strategist 5+ years ago). I wouldn’t implement as quickly if I didn’t have that high level of accountability myself. The question is, how committed are you to getting out of your own way and seeing results?

Why so much mentorship? Because I don’t subscribe to the belief that you can only work with one mentor at a time. As a result, I have infinitely more accountability access and knowledge I wouldn’t have otherwise. Plus, I take SO much more action than I would if only one mentor was on my team. When any opportunity for growth is presented to you, it’s important to evaluate it based on the value and specific results you will receive from it, not from what it costs. This requires a mindset shift.

This is a 6-week program, beginning on October 1, 2013. We will be in session until Friday, November 5, 2013.
The training lessons are delivered by email every Monday/Tuesday. You’ll receive 6 sessions, one per week.
The CEO Community Calls can be listened to via phone or Internet. If you miss the live calls, you will have access to recordings and can send your questions in advance to be addressed on the call.

Q: How do I get my spouse/partner to support me in this decision?
In my experience, spouses who aren’t in the room when coaching is being presented don’t always immediately see the value in the investment. Typically, the spouse is skeptical and wants to be reassured that this isn’t just another “bright, shiny object” for you, but rather something that will produce real results and provide a substantial return on investment.
